Built to Last

On the plus side, this chair is fairly easy to assemble, and looks sharp and modern - a combination of chrome and black. The assembly only took about 20 minutes for a not-too-mechanical teenager doing chores for spending money to put together. The arms are padded, which is not that common these days. The back is high enough for my husband to lean back in and rest his head, which is important as he is over 6'. It has a nice range of height and it reclines nicely. It "looks" the part of a modern-styled executive chair.On the down side, the seat padding is not as thick as I would like, and the chair is very heavy. This may make it durable - only time will tell, but you would not want to carry it upstairs. If you have a two story house, think twice about which floor you assemble it on because it won't be easily trodded up or downstairs once it is put together.

Not the greatest but still nice

I was in the market for an office chair so was glad to be offered the opportunity to try this one out, especially after seeing it was a HON. The box arrived in horrific shape; it looked like several people had beaten and kicked it severely for awhile or had rolled it down the side of a mountain. One flap on top was completely open and the box was covered in black crud. I feared some parts would be missing but thankfully, that was not the case. I think the box was not sufficiently sized for the weight of the chair and combining that with rough treatment from the delivery company caused it to look this way.I was surprised at how light the seat was but how heavy the back section was, although most of this was probably from the metal part of the frame which connected to the seat. The plastic piece that went over the middle section of the star base was rather pathetic - it did not fit properly and I was afraid any attempts to push it on better would snap it in two. The casters were quite difficult to get in the base but once in, felt like they would stay in place. I was very disappointed to see how cheaply made they were, being made completely of plastic except for the part that plugged into the base.From there, the most difficult task was holding the heavy back in place while screwing it onto the seat. The arms were not difficult to install after determining which way was the proper installation (instructions were not very helpful in this regard). Overall, this chair took less time for me to setup than any other office chair I have purchased. It looks very nice although I thought the seat seemed rather firm and would likely be uncomfortable sitting for extended periods of time. My son tried it out and fell immediately in love with it. We did have to loosen the tilt adjustment quite a lot to allow the chair to lean back at all; we probably had to turn it 15-20 times. It looks very nice at my son's desk and he is enjoying it without any complaints of it being too hard. Looking at the price of the chair, I think it is over-priced for the quality of what you are receiving when considering the cheap casters and the hard seat. However, it has held up well for the past month and looks very sharp in the office.

I'm 5'3" and of a pretty small build. This chair is either a little too big or a little too small for me, depending on whether or not you think I should be able to sit cross-legged in an office chair. The seat is also a little too deep for me to sit perfectly comfortably, BUT, both of these things are true in nearly every other chair I've ever sat in (including my "other" office chair, which is a Herman Miller Aeron chair).This is basically as comfortable as the Aeron for me, but it is less adjustable, so your mileage may vary. I have to say, I suspect that this would not be big enough for a significantly wider person, but I don't know for sure. I'm astonished that so many other reviewers seem to find this so uncomfortable due to the firmness -- I think it's perfect in that regard.Assembly was not the easiest thing I've ever done, but I did it on my own (see the first sentence for more on this!) without any major problems. Overall, the chair is a nice balance of firm and soft, it rolls smoothly but not willy-nilly, leans back but doesn't make me feel like I'm going to fall, and it's easy to adjust. I think it's also more attractive than a mesh chair, and I like that it looks professional, but not imposing.Office chairs are pricey, but this one seems competitive. I think whether or not it's right for you will depend on how important it is to you to be able to adjust every little thing, and whether you prefer a firm or soft seat. There are no flaws to this chair that would make it a bad buy, it just comes down to personal preferences.
